WHAT IS FASCIA?

Fascia is made of collagen which is shaped in a triple helix, making it a straw-like nanotubular structure (imagine super tiny tubes braided together, filled and surrounded by fluid). Previously referred to as “connective tissue” fascia embraces our organs, blood AND lymphatic vessels, bones, muscles, and our amazing nervous system. It keeps structures together and others apart, fascia is what prevents your organs from following to the bottom of your tummy!

WHY IS FASCIA IMPORTANT?

In recent years, scientists have discovered that when we experience physical or mental stress, the fascia tenses and collapses becoming bound and contributing to pain, mobility restriction, and poor cognition. Fascia is moving fluid through and around it. When healthy, the fluid within it moves without restriction,  the healthier the tissue the more flow, the less healthy the more stuck, causing pain, movement restriction and bad posture

How Fascia Stops Flowing:

  1. Dehydration

  2. Stress

  3. Tight shoes

  4. Poor posture and chronic seating

  5. Stagnancy

  6. Lack of sweating

  7. Damaged tissue

  8. Poor nutrition

How fascia tension feels:
  • Joint and muscular pain

  • TMJ

  • Tension headaches

  • Movement restriction

  • Deformities in feet

  • Postural patterns

  • Chronic body tension

  • Bunions

  • Circulation issues (lymphatic and blood vessels)

  • Neuropathies
